She is survived by her sister Grace Foale of Rolla, MO. The family suggest contributions be made to the Appleton City Cemetery.

Nevada MO Public Library Receives Grant

VERNON COUNTY, Mo – The Nevada Public Library has received a technology grant in the amount of $6,820.00. The grant will be used to purchase 10 new replacement computers that are running obsolete operating systems.

The grant will enable the Nevada Public Library to provide the best resources and services to the public by improving technology and replacing outdated equipment to ensure they can serve the community, and Missouri as a whole.

The state’s literacy and educational enrichment grants are funded by the Library Services and Technology Act through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Nevada Public Library was one of only 178 total grant applications to be approved for the 2015 fiscal year, distributing more than $1.1 million in federal awards to libraries throughout Missouri.

Funeral services for Sue Minnick will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions, American Cancer Society.

Sue Minnick, age 74 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. She was born March 29, 1940 to Elvis Alvin “Jim” and Cleo Marie Ruddell Ehart in Butler, Missouri.

Sue is survived by her husband, Jesse I. Minnick Jr. of Butler, Missouri; son, Jeff Minnick and fiance Cindy of Hobbs, New Mexico; step-son Danny Lee Minnick and wife Donna of Oak Grove, MO; a sister, Norma Nichols of Harrison, Arkansas; one grandchild, Jeremy Wayne Minnick; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Page, Marley Cherie, Milah Shealynn and Morgan Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her parents.

National Work Zone Awareness Week

MoDOT participates each spring in Work Zone Awareness week which starts Monday .

JEFFERSON CITY – Every spring, the Missouri Department of Transportation starts preparing for the summer season of roadwork across the state. Part of that preparation includes the observance of National Work Zone Awareness Week, which is March 23-27.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention as they drive past work zones. Not all work zones look alike. We remind motorists that work zones can be moving. operations, such as striping, patching or mowing.

The top five contributing circumstances for work zone crashes in 2014 were following too closely, inattention, improper lane use or changing lanes, failed to yield, and driving too fast for conditions — in that order. The average text takes five seconds to read. Traveling at 55 mph, you will travel more than the length of a football field- blindfolded! MoDOT’s slow moving maintenance operations move as slow as 10 mph and if you aren’t paying attention to the road, you will come up on the closed lane very quickly.

Any time highway workers are present on a Missouri roadway – whether it’s a long term lane closure, a moving operation, or shoulder work – your safety and the safety of those workers depends on drivers’ focus and attention. The state Slow Down and Move Over law includes MoDOT vehicles parked with amber/white lights flashing. Motorists are required to slow down and change lanes when approaching MoDOT vehicles or law enforcement and emergency vehicles with lights flashing. The law is simple: If you see flashing lights on the side of the road, move over to give workers and emergency personnel plenty of room to stay safe.

Bates County Sheriff Arrests Tony Hartsell

BATES COUNTY, Mo – On 03-18-2015 Bates County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Tony Hartsell 04-28-1960 of Butler on two outstanding Bates County Warrants. Bates County Deputies made contact with Tony Hartsell on Nursery Street in Butler. Tony Hartsell was arrested and transport to the Bates County Jail.

The warrants were for Theft/stealing a class A Misdemeanor. Resisting arrest also a class A Misdemeanor bond was set for $5000.00 cash or surety.

BUTLER, Mo – Does your summer plans include attending a Royals Game? If so, the Butler Bears Baseball team is currently selling vouchers for games during the 2015 Royals Season.

As of March 19th, there are still 92 – $21 tickets remaining; these are for Field Box seats normally $48 and 182 – $19 tickets, usually a $38 cost for Field Plaza seats.

The Butler Baseball Team will be playing at Royals Stadium on April 28th against the Lee’s Summit Christian Academy Eagles beginning at 4pm.

Admission and parking are free so the only cost will be whatever concessions you decide to purchase.
