Route 82 South of Osceola Closed for Repairs

Route 82 on either side of Route 13 south of Osceola is scheduled to CLOSE for several months beginning the week of April 7, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The closing of Route 82 will NOT occur until Business 13 is reopened to traffic.  Business 13 was closed March 10 to allow contractor crews to relocate its intersection with Route 82 farther to the west.

The closing of Route 82 is necessary to allow contractor crews to begin construction of a new Route 82 bridge over Route 13 - a part of the larger project to build an interchange at this intersection.

During the closing, a signed detour will be set up using Route 13, Route 54, Route 83, Route 65 and Route 7.  However, drivers can use other routes to get around the closing.

Standoff In Adrian

On Monday, March 31^st Bates County Sheriff Office Deputies were dispatched to Adrian, Missouri to assist Adrian Police Department on a possible standoff with a hostage.  Adrian Police received numerous calls to 100 W. 8^th Street, Lot 19, in regards to a male subject coming out onto the porch stating that he was going to harm people and one witness thought they heard a female voice screaming within the residence.

Adrian Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Deputies attempted to make contact with the subject but he would not come to the door.  The Bates County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team was activated to assist.

After several hours of attempting to make contact the subject finally came out and was taken into custody without incident and placed on a 24 hour hold for further investigation.  After searching the residence Deputies and Officers found no one else present within the home, and recovered possible methamphetamine.

                

Rural Fire Protection Services Due

(fm92 news) Rural fire protection services for the City of Butler are due beginning April 1^st.  Services will expire on March 31^st of the following year.  Membership fees are payable on or after the 1^st day of April of each year, payable during the month of April and will be considered delinquent after April 30^th.

Rural fire protection services are available for person in Bates County residing or owning real property.  The residence or property must be easily accessible by roads.  Membership fees range from $50.00 to $165.00 depending on property improvements.

MASH Garage Sale this Saturday

Relay for Life Garage Sale Saturday April 5^th. The Garage Sale will have furniture, clothing and lots of miscellaneous items for sale. Hours are 7 am to 3 pm at the Bates County Memorial Hospital Education Center. This Relay for Life Garage Sale will be hosted by the Mash Team for the American Cancer society.

Fraud Letter Warning

Recently, many contractors have received a faxed letter that is part of a recurring identity theft scheme asking recipients to provide bank account information on an “Authorization to Release Financial Information” form. The letter is typically signed by someone claiming to be a “Senior Procurement Officer” at DOT and appears on U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) letterhead containing a Washington, D.C. address, but little other identifying information. Information on this recurring scam and an example of these fraudulent letters can be seen below.

Any direct communication from DOT should always be accompanied with detailed contact information. In addition, DOT procurement representatives will only request financial information in reference to specific contracts awarded. DOT does not request financial information from prospective contractors wishing to submit a bid proposal or quote.

If you would like to report a fraudulent request for information to DOT, please contact the Office of Inspector General (OIG) Hotline here, or by calling (800) 424–9071. Spring Turkey Outlook Good For Much Of Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY–Missouri turkey hunters have reason to be optimistic about the 2014 spring turkey season, according to the state’s turkey expert.

Missouri’s spring turkey season runs from April 21 through May 11. The youth season takes place April 12 and 13. This year’s hunting regulations are nearly the same as last year.

One difference is in tagging requirements. Hunters no longer need to attach their voided permits to harvested turkeys, as long as they remain with the turkey. If you are away from your turkey, you must attach your voided permit to the bird’s leg.

Labeling requirements also have changed. In previous years, turkeys had to be labeled with the taker’s name, address, and Telecheck confirmation number before someone other than the taker could transport or possess the turkey. Beginning this year, date of harvest also must be included in the labeling information.

Before someone other than the taker can transport a turkey that has been reported through the Telecheck system, it must be labeled with the date taken, the taker’s name, address, and Telecheck confirmation number.

Also new this year is the addition of crossbows and atlatls to take turkeys during the spring season. Managed turkey hunts will be held on several additional conservation areas this spring. Butler Police Department Release

The Butler Police Department conducted a driver’s license and seatbelt check point on March 31^st.  Officers checked 132 vehicles and issued 1 driving while revoked, 1 no insurance, 3 no driver’s license, 1 fail to register and 8 no seatbelt tickets.  The grant was from The Highway Safety Office.

World Livestock Auctioneer Champion Dustin Focht to Appear at Mo-Kan Livestock Market

Dustin Focht, this year’s World Livestock Auctioneer Champion, will be at Mo-Kan Livestock Market (Butler, Mo.) on Thursday, April 3, starting at 11 a.m. (CT). Focht will be on the auction block, selling livestock and showing off the chant that made him a world champion auctioneer.

Thursday’s sale is the Grass Cattle and Yearling Special Sale at Mo-Kan.

Focht defeated 30 other contestants to win the World Livestock Auctioneer Championship (WLAC), held in June in Montgomery, Ala. The WLAC was created and is conducted by the Livestock Marketing Association (LMA), the national trade association for progressive marketing businesses. During his year as champion, Focht is traveling across the U.S., appearing at LMA member markets and industry events.

Local livestock markets across the country work hard to bring in multiple buyers to bid competitively on sale day, providing true price discovery of the value of all types of livestock, maximizing the return to the seller. In turn, they provide buyers a centralized location with a ready supply of livestock in the offering.
