Adrian Optimist Gun and Knife Show

ADRIAN , Mo - The Adrian Optimist Club’s 3-day gun & knife show will be held Friday – Sunday, March 28^th, 29^th and 30^th.  All of the excitement will take place in the Adrian Optimist Building on old 71 highway.

Admission is just $5 per day for adult, children under 10 will get in free.  Hours on Friday, March 28^th will be from 5 – 9pm; Saturday, March 29^th from 8am – 6pm and on Sunday, March 30^th hours will be from 9am – 3pm.

Over 150 tables will be filled with guns, ammo, accessories, knives and military surplus.  Door prizes and raffle items.  For more information contact Jim Binkley at 816-213-7247.

Don’t Be a Dud! Buy a Spud! Potato Day will include Adrian, the Rich Hill Schools and Butler this March 28, 2014.

Deliveries will be made on Friday, March 28 from 11:00 a.m. -- 1:00pm in Butler with a lunch time delivery to the Adrian School, Rich Hill Schools and Adrian businesses. 

For the price of $5.00, you can have a large, baked potato (choice of ham or chili), sour cream, a homemade cookie and a drink delivered to your home, business or school in Butler or your business or school  in Adrian and Rich Hill.

You can also place orders to be picked up. These can be picked up at the Uptown Church building just a few buildings east of the SE corner of the Butler square.

To get your potato feast, you can order one of two ways: Call the Get Fit Gym and Fitness in Butler at 660-200-2100 between Wednesday, March19 and Monday, March 24.  Or you can place your order anytime by email at bcyouthadvocacycouncil@gmail.com. Cut off on orders is Monday evening, March 24. Be sure and give location and time for your delivery. Also make your topping choice of ham or chili and your drink choice of Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sprite or water.

Champions for Kids / Simple Giving

BUTLER, Mo - Every year students in the United States miss more than 51 million hours of school due to dental-related illness.

You have an opportunity to stop by your local Wal-Mart Store and donate personal care items for kids.  Personal items like kids’ toothbrushes, toothpaste and hand soap can be placed in the purple donation bins between March 22^nd and April 7^th.

All donations will go to children in our school district and the School District that collects the most items from a single Walmart store will also receive $10,000 from Champions for Kids.

Stop by your local Wal-Mart store and help be a “champion for kids.”

Local Farmers Can Help Butler R-V Schools

Attention Bates County Area Farmers: If you, your spouse, or someone you know is a farmer who grows 250 acres of corn or soybeans or who grows more than 10 acres of vegetables, you are eligible to recommend the Butler R-V School District for a grant worth $25,000 toward improving science and math instruction.

The team of educators at Butler have identified science laboratory sensors and equipment which will enhance biology, physics, and chemistry instruction at the 7-12^th grade levels. This is already a targeted need, and will offer the students a modern, hands-on application of scientific measurement and processes which researchers and technicians use in laboratories every day.

If you would like to help nominate the Butler School for this grant, there are two options:

The nomination form is short and simple.

Father Charged in Death of Two Sons

ORRICK, Mo - On December 11, 2013, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, was asked by Ray County Sheriff Gary Bush to assist with a death investigation. 

On December 10, 2013, the Ray County Sheriff’s Office was notified by telephone of a structure fire, which was later determined to be a trailer located in Orrick, Missouri.  Two children, Roger Garrison, age 3, and Ashton Garrison, age 1, were found dead inside the trailer.

As a result of the subsequent investigation by investigators with the Division of Drug and Crime Control, Ray County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, a warrant was obtained and Randy M. Garrison, 31, of Orrick, Missouri, was arrested for two charges of abandonment of a child in the first degree -- a Class B felony.

Garrison is being held at the Ray County Jail on a $100,000 bond. The charges for which Garrison was arrested are mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

US Postal Service is Now Hiring

BUTLER, Mo - The US Postal Service is now hiring for a city carrier assistant (cca).  Earnings will be $15.30 per hour and leave earning will be available.

Bates County Museum Order No. 11 Events

Order No. 11 Memorial Plaque

This 24"x30" bronze marker will be dedicated on Saturday, March 22nd at 2pm at the Bates County Courthouse.

Speakers from all 4 counties impacted by Order No. 11 will be here. Come be a part of history as Bates County commemorates the history of our past.

Bates County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Receives Grant

BATES COUNTY, Mo - The Bates County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security has received a $1,000 Safe Community grant from the Enbridge Energy Company.  Ron Nissen, Director stated the grant will be used to purchase communication equipment the organization needs.

The Enbridge Safe Community Program provides grants to emergency responders in areas of Enbridge operations to help departments secure equipment and training.

The Bates County Memorial Hospital recently received a $996 grant from Enbridge Energy which will be used to support the Bates County Emergency Medical Services at the hospital.

Since the program began in 2002, Enbridge has provided more than 1,500 grants to fire, police and EMS departments in U.S. communities.

Archie R-V Kindergarten Screening

ARCHIE, Mo - The Archie R-V Kindergarten Screening will be held on Wednesday, March 26^th from 9am – 2:30pm.  Any child who will be 5 years of age before August 1, 2014 is eligible for kindergarten enrollment and screening.

Parents must bring their child’s official state birth certificate, immunization records, social security number and proof of residency (such as your utility bill) to enroll your child.
