Man from Ava pleads guilty for murdering teen

CLINTON, Mo. - One of two men accused of killing a teenager near Ava pleaded guilty last Friday. Sentencing for Christopher Jorgensen of Ava is scheduled for Nov. 12.

Jorgenson, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action after originally being charged with first-degree murder. His case was moved from Douglas County to Henry County to try to ensure a fair outcome. He could get a prison sentence of 10 to 30 years for murder and a sentence of three to 30 years for armed criminal action.

Prosecutors say Jorgenson and another man beat up Kenny Stout, 17, of Republic, left him in the woods, and then went back and stabbed him to death in December 2011.

Nathan Jensen, 26, is also charged for Stout's murder. His trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 28 in Pulaski County. He's charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse.

Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources Hosting Pesticide Pickup

CLINTON, Mo - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will host an event June 29 in the Henry County town of Clinton aimed at helping Missouri residents rid their homes and farms of unwanted pesticides and related chemicals. The event, part of the Missouri Pesticide Collection Program, will allow Missouri households and farmers to safely and legally dispose of pesticides, fungicides, insecticides, rodenticides, de-wormers, fly tags and fertilizers containing herbicides or pesticides.

The event runs from 9AM to 4PM at the Clinton Street Department Lot, 801 E. Sedalia Avenue in Clinton. It is open to all residents of Missouri. The program is funded through a hazardous waste enforcement settlement that resulted in more than $1 million being set aside for the effort.

The Department of Natural Resources has hired an independent contractor to conduct the collection events under the supervision of the department. More information on the Missouri Pesticide Collection Program is available online dnr.mo.gov/env/hwp/pesticide/
