HARRISONVILLE, Mo - The Cass County Sheriff's Department said a 17-year-old Kingsville boy drowned in a private lake Sunday afternoon.
Deputies said Kalen Littlefield was on a personal watercraft with a man at a party being held at a private lake south of Harrisonville.
Both of them fell off the watercraft, but the other passenger was the only one able to make it to shore.
Members of the Lee's Summit Underwater Rescue Team pulled Littlefield's body out of the water. Detectives said Littlefield was not a strong swimmer. Neither rider had a life jacket on.
Investigators said they believe Littlefield was taking part in a Father's Day celebration just before the accident happened.
The drowning was the third at a lake in the Kansas City region in the past eight days. A Raytown teenager drowned while swimming at a private lake in Lee's Summit last weekend. On Saturday, Brent Baselee, 26, drowned while swimming with friends at Longview Lake.
