Adrian Optimist Students of the Month

BATES COUNTY, Mo – The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.

The Ballard Student of the Month for December is James Engelhardt, senior son of Charles and Lawanda Engelhardt. Music Instructor, Vicki Lybarger states “James was one of the (students) who worked so very hard on props for the elementary program. He always helps me carry in heavy things from my car and isn’t in any of my classes. He is just a really nice young man.” Art Instructor, Jenny Czyzewski adds “James is always willing to help others. He puts aside his own interests in order to tutor peers in math and science as well as helping teachers accomplish goals like building sets for the school play, or putting up risers for the music performance. He contributes to the positive atmosphere in the school and maintains a cheerful and humble attitude in all he does.”

The Adrian Student of the Month is Austin Corley. Austin, a senior, is the son of Butch Corley and Candace Corley. In school, Austin participates in football, track, and FCA. While outside of school he participates in soccer and AAU track and field. Austin states “My parents have given me everything they could and I will work hard to make them proud. I want to make the county and world a better place. Fulfill my duties to God and reach my full potential.” After High School, Austin plans to attain a degree in Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University.

Jessica Blomquist is the Miami Student of the Month for Miami. Jessica, a junior, is the daughter of Jennifer and Johnny Blomquist. Her favorite activity in school is FFA, while outside of school she works on her family farm helping with her little brothers. Jessica states “I am inspired by my community around me. They influence me to become the best I can be.” After high school Jessica plans on attending college and getting a degree to become an Agriculture teacher. Staff at Miami states “Jessica is a very hardworking young lady that has been a great addition to our school. She is dependable, courteous, and an outgoing young lady that is a pleasure to work with.”
