Shots Fired in Rockville

On February 24th, late last night Bates County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shots fired call that had happened earlier in Rockville. Sheriff Chad Anderson was notified of the nature of the call and then called out extra units and the Detective Division to meet him in Rockville to begin an investigation. Once Bates County Deputies arrived at the reporting party’s residence they received the following information from the victim.

The victim stated he was traveling South on B highway in front of Seiders One Stop. The victim stated he saw a white in color SUV possibly a Jeep traveling on B highway behind him. The SUV then attempted to pass him in the area of Seiders One Stop. The victim stated that while the SUV was trying to pass him, one of the occupants fired two gun shots at his truck. The white SUV continued to follow the vehicle onto County Road 15305 where they fired three more shots at the victim. The victim arrived at his residence, exited his vehicle and returned fire at the white SUV. The white SUV then sped off.

During the investigation a search of the area was conducted for the suspect vehicle. The tail gate of the victim’s truck had been shot once. The bullet hole in the tail gate did not penetrate all the way through. The bullet was trapped inside the tailgate. Sheriff Chad Anderson had the Bates County Detective Division remove the bullet from the tail gate. The bullet will be sent to the crime lab for analysis to determine the caliber and to see if the bullet is a match to a specific weapon that may have been used in other crimes.
