What is the Children’s Center?

BATES COUNTY, Mo – When a concern arises that a child has been abused, the question arises, what next? The Children’s Center provides a safe, neutral, child friendly setting for the investigation of child abuse. They provide forensic interviews and medical evaluations regarding allegations of child abuse and work together as a team. This means that team members from various agencies including: law enforcement, Children’s Division, juvenile officers, etc. come together to obtain needed information. This process limits the number of interviews that your child will have to participate in.

Four locations of Children’s Centers are available to suspected child abuse victims from the ages of birth to seventeen. The centers also treat mentally challenged adults. Those locations are found in Joplin, Monett, Nevada and one in Butler. The Butler facility saw close to 100 children in 2014.

The 8th Annual Children’s Center’s “Casino Night” fundraiser will be held this year on Saturday, March 21st at the Adrian Optimist Building. Social hour will be from 6:30 – 7:30 and the Casino will be open from 7:30 – 10pm. With your $25 admission ticket, your dinner and drinks will be included, but you must be 21 years of age to attend and have a ticket to enter.
