Happy Birthday to us!

FM-92 will celebrate another anniversary on January 15th. The FM was added in 1975 making the broadcast of radio to the surrounding counties continue into the evening hours. The AM has restricted hours by the Federal Communication Commission and was and still is restricted to day time. When your local radio station first hit the Bates County air waves the frequency had to sine off as early as 5 pm during the winter season. When FM made its debut, the 92.1 frequency was purchased by owner Bill Thornton, which allowed us to use the FM within a 24 hours a day license.
This addition, kicked things up a notch for the County, and allowed the FM to be on the air after sunset and we progressed into providing more programs, music, local sports and events which occurred in the evening hours. Like the broadcast of the Butler Lions Club Radio Auction, Local Football and Basketball Games.
“We’ve come a long way baby” for those of you old enough to remember that cliché! Again in 2014 we are making changes to our format
We will join the world of internet streaming by late January and this will allow you to hear our programming and our local sports broadcasts World Wide.
Many people that have lived in our area and have moved to another location are excited to now have the ability to hear their Home Town Station from their location and will now be able to keep in touch with their home town News and Sports events through the wonder of the internet.
One Soldier has already commented to FM-92 that as she and others look forward to being able to hear the Butler Radio Station through the World Wide Web as they serve our Country miles from home. The Soldier stated that, “just being able to hear a familiar voice, local sports events and the ability to hear what is going on at home will warm their souls, ”from where they are stationed as they serve our Country thousands of miles from home.
FM-92 will be upgrading our website and moving it to a new name… It will soon be called 921news. If you are searching for it on the web. We use this website to post Local News, a Calendar of Area Events, Obituaries and of course School Cancellations. You may also find us on facebook by searching for Kmam-Kmoe.
FM-92 and AM 1530, expanding to reach thousands of people through the web, facebook, streaming and of course “Live”. Kmam 1530, now in its 51st year. Kmoe 92.1 serving you for the past 39 years.
With this milestone, we take the time to remind you …… that none of this would be possible without the support of the community. Without the local businesses that advertise on these stations, there would not be funds available to manage and operate a local Radio Station in this area. So we salute you, our community for our success.
