2014 Bates County fair changes

BUTLER, Mo - Members of the Bates County Fair Board discussed upcoming changes for the Bates County Fair at their annual meeting Saturday, January 10th.

Board members Jeff Taylor, Kermit Kauffman, Linda Mareth and Renee Hendrix along with other board members discussed the changes for the 2014 fair. This year the fair will official kick off on Tuesday, July 8th with 4-H Evaluation Day beginning at 8am.

The parade will begin at 5:30 Tuesday evening followed by the Bash and Talent Show beginning at 6pm. This is a change from the years past when the opening day was on Monday.

The Fair Board reported the cook shack was in need of repairs and upgrading and felt the costs of the repairs weren’t justified. They are seeking clubs or groups that would come in and serve breakfast and lunch as a money making project. If you know of a club or group or even a mobile concession stand that would like to earn money this summer contact any of the Fair Board Members.

Plans are under way to insulate the Pavilion and put up sides and take the air conditioning units from the cook shack and use them in the Pavilion. A generous donation to the fair should take care of the majority of the costs for the modifications to the Pavilion.

The board discussed the difficulty in finding queen and princess candidates and wanted to remind young ladies this would be an excellent summer job with great benefits.
A thank you went out to Dr. Curtis and Ann Long who provides the money for the kids for their points.
There was a brief discussion regarding a carnival setting up during the fair but nothing was decided regarding the carnival.

921News will have more information as the plans are finalized.
