For many years, donor families have created quilt squares as a memorial in honor of their loved ones. The Midwest Transplant Network (MTN) continues to use these squares in creating new quilts, as a tribute to those who have given the gift of life. During the week of June 16, 2014, four memorial quilts are on display in the front lobby at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. This beautiful tribute to MTN’s life-saving donors travels to events throughout Kansas and western Missouri to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation while honoring those individuals who have given gifts of life.
MTN’s Donor Memorial Quilt is a work in progress. There is no deadline, and it is never finished as they know there will always be other families who face the death of a loved one and make the decision to donate. This allows every family, past, present or future, to honor and remember their loved one by participating in this special project.
With a mission to save lives by honoring the gift of donation and compassion, Midwest Transplant Network has been connecting lives in the Kansas and western Missouri communities for 40 years. They are a federally certified not-for-profit Organ Procurement Organization and works with donors, donor families and hospitals to extend legacies, provide hope and give life. On Saturday, June 21, 2014, the second annual Giving Fore Living Darin Wainscott Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Butler Country Club. The memorial quilts will be on display at this event. For more information, log on to their website at www.givingforeliving.com.
