It began as an idea or a thought born out of honoring our military, both past, present and even future, and today that idea became a reality.
The Veterans Memorial was dedicated on the Bates Courthouse Lawn, Saturday, June 14th, very appropriately on Flag Day, where it will stand through time as a fitting tribute to all the men and women who have fought to keep our country free.
As many words were spoken today regarding the memorial, the central theme was the dedication of the veterans that have served their country, at home and abroad, and that is who the memorial is dedicated to.
Nathan Agnew spoke of the evolution of the flag and how it began with just 13 stars to what it is today.
Terry Agnew of the Bates County Elks spoke of the 1,040 names already memorialized on the plaques surrounding the memorial and thanked the veterans in attendance to see the unveiling of the Memorial. Ryan Agnew, Terry and Candy Agnew’s son, was instrumental in the design of the stone, and a special thank you went out to the Freeman Monument for the wonderful job they did on carrying out the design.
Stop by the Bates County Courthouse lawn and take the time to look at the names on the plaques and look at the wonderful Veterans Memorial, it is a wonderful sight to behold.
To everyone involved in any way with bringing this wonderful tribute to life, thank you for a job well done.
