Coach’s Comments

“Tonight was our final home event, with a few special events added in to the conference meet. Senior night presentations were held for Tayje Van Voorst, 138 lb senior, and stat girl Hali Heckadon. A plaque was presented to long-time assistant coach Rick White, whose history with the Butler wrestling program now transcends 40 years…unbelievable. With a decent crowd, we performed decently tonight. We picked up two expected dual wins against Sherwood, a team low on numbers this season, and against Summit Christian, who we already wrestled and beat last week in a pickup tri-meet at their place. We certainly would have liked to wrestle tougher against Van Horn, but we fell short of giving them the points battle that we would like to create in future seasons. Van Horn is a full roster, now a class 3 program, and they have quality wrestlers throughout their lineup. If we do our part in recruitment and retention over the off-season, I think we can compete with this size of team much better in the future. We won the conference in back-to-back seasons in 2011 and 2012. The power is bound to shift again, and we’re definitely the closest of the three other schools in the conference to have a chance to challenge them going forward. ”
