BUTLER, Mo – The Council opened Tuesday evening with the swearing in of Carolyn Jett to complete the term of Kyle Dubray in Ward 4 by Deputy City Clerk Corey Snead.
The topic then moved to the Maple Leaf Facility and after much discussion and debate in Committee as well as during the Butler City Council meeting, there is still no decision as to what will happen with the sale of the Maple Leaf Facility.
Three separate entities came before Council on March 3rd regarding the purchase of the property. City Clerk Casey Koehn requested in writing a purchasing price. Two separate quotes were discussed during the Council meeting, one from the Butler School District, with a purchase price of $300,000 and one from Medicalodges for a purchase price in the range of $25 – $50,000. A motion was made and seconded to accept the bid from the Butler School District, feeling it was better for the City to accept the higher bid. Mayor Don Malan then recognized Misty Brooks from Medicalodge who asked the motion be tabled until the next Council meeting since Medicallodge has hired a consultant to look at all the aspects of purchasing the facility and what would be needed to secure the financing of the project. That report should be ready in 10 days. Mayor Malan called for a vote to accept the motion from the Butler School District and it was defeated 4 votes to 3, Harold Weil absent from meeting. The Council then decided to call a special meeting if necessary since the next council meeting will be in three weeks to review the matter again. Mayor Malan stated a decision needs to be made as quickly as possible.
Steven Thomas who resides at 802 West Dakota Street in Butler, came before Council regarding a fence permit and after discussion it was determined the matter needs to be addressed by the Zoning Committee regarding a variance and then the matter will be addressed by Council.
Jim Henry, Butler Fire Chief, brought two bids for radio and pager upgrades. Mo-Comm’s bid was $6,765 and Western Communications – $5,085. Motion was made and seconded to accept the bid from Western Communications.
One resolution and two bills were read and approved – Res No. 416 in electing changes under the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement system and Out; Bill 2015-1 Ord. No. 998 approving the 2015-2016 fiscal year budget; and Bill No. 2015 2015-2 Ord. No. 999 amending the City Code regarding EBT cards.
Trent Diehl, Public Works Director reminded Council of the City Wide black out on March 26th between 11pm and midnight, he stated the outage should only be momentarily as equipment is checked.
