The regular meeting of the Butler City Council met on Tuesday, April 1st.

Elizabeth Ogg, Economic Development for the City of Butler presented Butler’s 2015 Comprehensive Plan time line to the City Council.  She noted that preparation would include writing a public participation plan; creating a vision committee reaching out to the public with PR events and the media.  A series of three Community meetings will be held beginning in the spring of 2014, continue with another meeting in the summer and the last one in the fall of 2014.  After the three Community meetings and information has been reviewed, a Butler Comprehensive Plan will be written, edited and presented to the Butler City Council will hopefully in May of 2015.

Bill Neider from the Neighborhood Advisory Commission recommended to the Council the Code Enforcement Officer increase his work week from thirty hours per week to a forty hour week.  The added hours will hopefully cut down on paperwork and allow more time to clear up violations.  Council asked if the increase was in the budget, City Clerk Casey Koehn will look into it and the request will go to the Personnel Committee that will bring back a recommendation to the Council.

The bids for the runway project have been submitted to the Airport Commission for review.  They are waiting on final word from Burns and McDonnell, and then a recommendation will be made to the Council.

The asbestos inspection needed for the housing demo project should begin next week.  This should be the final step in the environmental impact and then should proceed to demo bids.  A list of dangerous structures was presented to the Council for review.

A possible observance of the Solar Farm was discussed – tying in the 1881 Electric City with the new 2014 Solar Farm.  An antique lamp post used on Ohio Street (currently stored at Mullinax Funeral Home) will be taken to the Solar Farm and tie in 1881 to 2014 as the lamp post will use solar energy to light the light.
