BUTLER, Mo – A great deal of time spent on discussing dogs at the Butler City Council meeting on Tuesday evening.
Roger Cecil, Butler’s Animal Control Supervisor came before the Council to discuss implanting chips in dogs within the city limits. He stated ordinance to purchase an animal license isn’t working since fewer than 100 people purchase licenses for their animals.
He told the council for a one-time fee of $25 the dogs would have the chip installed and with the reader he has, it will be much simpler to identify the owners of the dogs.
CJ Kellogg came before the council to discuss pit bulls within the city limits and also a clarification on the vicious animal ordinance and it perhaps needed to be updated. Tom Addelman, City Attorney will take a look at the ordinance and report back to the Council.
Angie Kauffman, representing the Butler Bear Backers, came before the Council to ask permission for the Bear Backers to hold a Glo Run 5k on September 20th. Walkers would leave the Butler High School and cross Nursery street and walk around the pool and park area and then back to the High School. Council approved the request and they will inform the Police Department of the route of the 5k.
Edwin Nelson came before the Council to report that he is still working on his property at 305 S. Mechanic and needs some more time. Since many extensions have already been given to Mr. Nelson, Mayor Don Malan told him the building inspectors would be at his home Wednesday morning for an inspection and then would be back in 21 days to document the progress and report back to the Council. He further stated that progress must be documented by the building inspectors.
Larry Tucker, City Administrator reported the Parks and Recreation Commission met on July 3rd and highlights from the meeting were that banners in the south park area were missing at the end of May. A police report was filed and an insurance claim will be submitted. The missing banners have been replaced at an estimated cost of $675.
A free movie will be held in the south park area during the latter part of August, with the date and specific location to be announced later.
Council voted on the Nuisance weed mowing bids accepting both Timeline and Culler’s Lawn Care. Both will be used to work on nuisance properties.
Mr. Tucker also informed Council he asked Darin Hamelink to participate in the next Talk Time on July 23rd to discuss the ¾ cent sales tax to improve roads on the August 5th ballot.
Trent Diehl, Director of Public Works, updated the Council on the status of the street projects and informed Council the burning process at the brush pile has begun and should be open in a week.
The Airport Runway project should begin on August 25th and looking at a 4 – 6 week completion time.
