(SEDALIA, Mo.) –The 2014 Missouri State Fair starts next Thursday, Aug. 7 and will continue through Aug. 17, in Sedalia. The annual agricultural expo will again showcase more than 30,000 entries, representing nearly every Missouri county and nearly 4,000 Missouri 4-H and FFA youth. New this year in the livestock category will be a Dairy Goat Dedication.
New this year, will be a dedication of the Dairy Goat Shows to a family who has proven to be important to this industry. The name of the Show Dedication Family will be announced at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, prior to the Open Senior Dairy Goat Show in the Sheep Pavilion. Nominations for this deserving family were submitted by exhibitors this summer.
Other highlights among the livestock shows this year will be the 4-H/FFA On-Foot Barrow Show at 8 a.m., Aug. 8 in the Swine Pavilion, the 4-H/FFA Steer Show at 8 a.m., Aug. 12 in the Coliseum, and the 4-H/FFA Rabbit Meat Pen Show at 7 p.m., Aug. 13 in the Rabbit Building.
Many livestock exhibitors will work toward earning a place in the ring at the time-honored Sale of Champions Auction. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Steers, Barrows, Lambs, Meat Goats, Pens of Chickens and Pens of Rabbits will be featured in the auction, which will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall.
The 112th Missouri State Fair, themed “Harvest the Fun” will be held Aug. 7-17 in Sedalia.
