FBI Called In to Investigate Body Found in Stockton, MO

STOCKTON, Mo. – Authorities in Cedar County are still looking into the death of a man found by hikers at Crabtree Cove on Stockton Lake on Sunday afternoon. The body belonged to a man but investigators have not identified him. The discovery was made by hikers about 4 p.m.

Cedar County sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rangers initiated the investigation but then called in the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The FBI has been called in to investigate the death because the man’s body was found on federal property.

Cedar County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jason Johnson estimated the body had been there two to three days. The FBI removed the body about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. An autopsy is scheduled in Springfield this week.

Anyone with any information can contact the Cedar County Sheriff’s Department at (417) 276-5133.
