Butler, Mo – Those were the words Mayor Don Malan spoke to Shawn McVey as he resigned his position on the Butler City Council Tuesday evening. McVey who represents Ward 4 told Council he was resigning effective immediately but it was not due to health issues. He stated he had other priorities at this time.
Robert Crain from Burns and McDonnell came before Council with an update on the airport project. The majority of the work has been completed, but due to cold weather the final steps will take place in the spring when there will be a final cleaning of the runway, a black slurry seal coat for protection and the white remarking of the runway. It should only take place over a five day span.
Austin Mount, Executive Director of the Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission came before council to clarify the salary of Elizabeth Ogg, Bates County Economic Developer. Ogg’s current annual salary is $40,000 with $11,000 in taxes and benefits making a total of $51,000 annual salary. Ogg will also receive a 6% salary increase for 2015.
Two resolutions were approved, both to do with signature on accounts at Community First Bank. Resolution 414 was a two signature authorization for the CDBG Grant and the Resolution 415to remove the former City Administrator from the signature card.
Elizabeth Ogg updated the council on projects that are on-going at this time, as well as highlighting upcoming events the Visioning Committee is currently working on.
Butler Police Chief Randy Beshore asked Council about the time frame to turn on the Christmas lights on the square and Council decided to turn them on Thanksgiving evening.
Casey Koehn brought a year end adjustment request to purchase Visa gift cards for city employees this year instead of writing checks, stating that some checks were never cashed or they were lost. Council voted to approve the gift cards for this year.
An exception was made to allow Dixie Counterman and her son Jimmy Beaver to ride in the Senior Taxi.
Council approved Trout Beeman for the 2015 audit.
Trent Diehl, Director of Public Works received permission to upgrade the computer operating system at the water treatment plant at a cost of $49,040 and a membrane filter replacement phase two for $73,801.
Brian Phillips suggested that Council should something should be done to recognize C.A. Moore, a true friend of the City of Butler. Council will come back with suggestions at the next meeting.
