Four students have received $500 Missouri Farm Bureau Vocational Scholarships for the 2015-2016 school year. Scholarship funds are available through the Missouri Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture and awarded to students pursuing certification in fields related to and supportive of agriculture such as heavy equipment operations, electronics, welding, and diesel farm machinery repair. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on Farm Bureau membership, intent to pursue an agriculture-related field as a career, aptitude toward these related fields, ability to communicate clearly defined personal goals, and demonstration of leadership through participation in extracurricular activities and community involvement.
These are the 2015 MFB Vocational Scholarship recipients:
Scott Morris is a Ballard High School graduate who has enrolled in the welding program at Missouri Welding Institute in Nevada, Missouri. He is the son of Gene and Brandy Morris of Butler. Morris has received a number of FFA proficiency awards. He served as FFA chapter secretary, and on the meat, livestock and agronomy judging teams. Other school involvement includes varsity baseball and basketball, and National Honor Society where he served as president. Morris plans to return to the family farm to both farm and work as a certified master pipe welder and fitter.
Ryan Young will graduate from Boonville High School and plans to attend State Technical College of Missouri, where he will study machine tool technology. He is the son of Frank and Theresa Young of Boonville. He has belonged to both FFA and 4-H and currently serves as FFA chapter president. Young plans to build specialty parts that can be used to increase the efficiency and production of farm equipment.
Austin Nelson will graduate from Higbee High School and will attend State Technical College of Missouri, where he will study medium and heavy truck technology. He is the son of Neil and Angie Nelson of Higbee. Nelson is senior class president, student council member, and has been on both the basketball and track teams. He is active in 4-H where he competes in swine, beef and archery programs. Nelson plans to pursue a mechanic job in the mid-Missouri area
Jeffrey Twellman is currently enrolled in the heavy equipment technology program at State Technical College of Missouri. This is the second year Twellman has received this scholarship. He is the son of Mark and Cheryl Twellman of Silex. Twellman has been listed on the State Technical College Dean’s List. He was involved in FFA, serving as chapter president and parliamentarian. This summer he will intern at Sydenstricker Genetics and plans to be employed with a farm equipment dealer technician.
