Since February is “Heart Month” Nurse Laura Thiem, of the Adrian Family Care Clinic, spoke to the Butler Rotary Club Wednesday afternoon on Heart Health in Women. Nurse Laura told Rotary members that women show different symptoms than men when faced with heart issues.
While common symptoms of a heart attack in men are shooting pains down your left arm as well as crushing pain in the heart area, women face different symptoms that can be masked as something else.
Symptoms in women may include nausea, heart burn, coldness in your neck area, back pain, shortness of breath and indigestion. Many times these symptoms are not consistent with heart attacks and are often overlooked. Always be aware of what is happening in your body and take the precautions that are needed.
The No. 1 symptom in heart disease is “denial”.
