Bates County Sheriff's Office News Release

On March 11, 2014, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible burglary in progress on East Main Street in Adrian Missouri.  Initially, the Adrian Police Department was busy on a call that required them to be at the Bates County Memorial Hospital.

An off duty Adrian Officer responded along with the Bates County Deputies.  Once officers were on scene they noticed what appeared to be damage to the front door.  With information from a witness the Officers were sure there was still someone in the residence.

After several attempts to get possible occupants to acknowledge their presence and come out of the house, Officers made entry into the residence to conduct a search for people.  Once in the house they found a male subject, identified as Richard B Mckeown, WM 8/14/67, of Grain Valley Missouri hiding in a hallway.

Mckeown was arrested and taken to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office.   Once the property owner arrived and confirmed that she knew the subject and did not want to pursue charges for trespass.  It was also noted that the damage to the door was done by the home owner earlier in the week.

Mckeown is being held in the Bates County Jail on outstanding warrant for driving while revoked out of Johnson County Missouri with a bond of $500 cash only.
