(fm92) The Bates County Recovery Court of the 27th Judicial Circuit will host the annual Highway Hogs and Hillbillies Poker Run this spring. The date has not been set yet, but plans are underway and donations are needed.
This event is well attended by motorcycle riders from all walks of life with a common goal to support the on-going efforts of the Adult Recovery Court.
This organization gives non-violent drug offenders a second chance to a productive life. To date 10 adults have made drastic changes in their lives as they participate and graduate from the program. Many of them, in the beginning of the intensive 18-month program think of it as a “stay out of jail card” or “get out felony charges”. As they become involved in the curriculum of the program, something happens in the hearts, minds and lives of these individuals. Their eyes are opened to the need to change their path in life and the Adult Recovery Court teaches these tools for a life changing direction.
To date 10 adults that faced felony charges and possible prison time have been transformed into responsible, employed members of the community through this Adult Recovery Court Program.
The Highway Hogs and Hillbillies Poker run is just one of the many fund raising events that keep the Adult Recovery Court active and available to those that qualify and are accepted into the program.
