Order No. 11 Historical Marker Dedication

After 150 years, Bates County will finally have a historical marker telling the story of the issuance of Order No. 11 in the summer of 1863.  Order No. 11 was a military mandate that ordered the removal of every man, woman and child from Bates County.order 11

Two separate events will take place on Saturday, March 22nd beginning at 10am in the Robertson Hall at the Bates County Museum.

Hank Roberts will premier his CD, Missouri Sounds, dedicated to the memories of those who lived in Missouri during the Civil War.

Author Rom Rafiner will update his work regarding the families of Bates County during Order No. 11; and Aaron Barnhart and Diane Eickhoff will discuss their book, The Big Divide, a guide to Civil War sites along the Missouri and Kansas Border.

At 2pm on March 22nd in the 2nd floor Courtroom of the Bates County Courthouse there will be the dedication of a bronze historical marker telling the story of Order No. 11.  The statue will be placed on the Courthouse lawn.
