10,000 solar panels, 14 acres of tilted 12 x 15 panels later and the Butler Solar Power Farm is up and running. According to MC Power Company their energy production (approximately 4500+ MWh/year) will offset an estimated 9% of Butler’s 52,000 MWh/year energy usage. For a point of reference, 1/2 day of operation by this 3.23MW solar energy system will power an average sized home for 1 year.
This project should reduce energy costs in Butler for the next 25 years. Not bad for the City known as the first city west of the Mississippi River to have electric power when it turned on the lights in 1881 at the Bates County Courthouse.
