The Trail of Memories was established in April of 2007 as the family of Debbie Bledsoe established a living memorial in her honor. Debra lost her battle with breast cancer on January 20, 2007 and her twin sister Dana began this living memorial which allows families to have the opportunity to adopt a tree in memory of their lost loved ones. The Trail of Memories has become a trail of caring and support which allows families to share their pain and grief with others who have lost a loved one.
The location of the trail is on the West side of the Aquatic Park, south of George Ray Road in Butler. Along with the generosity of the Bates County Community Health Foundation and the Bates County Memorial Hospital, the Trail of Memories now extends to the Hospital grounds. To date there are approximately 200 trees that have been planted.
Expanded efforts now include the Breast Cancer Bracelets. It is their hope that everyone will wear this Love & Hope Bracelet in honor of, or in remembrance of their loved one. Some have lost the battle to breast cancer, but for other there is still hope.
Profits from the sale of the bracelets help support a scholarship fund to a nursing student each year at the American Cancer Society Relay of Life event.
Prior Scholarship winners include:
2012: Taylor Welston
2011: Amanda Hanson
2010 Rebecca Julien
2009: Lynette Clover
