There may be new life for the Spec Building. Mike Taranto from Solar Shade USA addressed the Council in regards to Solar Shade USA needing additional room for the creation of transportable shelter shade collectors, which can be rolled up and carried away. The military has Ok’d the photo type and now 3 more units will be built and field tested and Solar Shade is looking for space. The possibility of 15 – 30 people would be employed to build the collectors. The Council will call a committee meeting and Mr. Taranto will meet with the Council to discuss the Spec Building.
Rhonda Meyer and Donnie Kuck from Pathways Community Health came before the Council to receive an endorsement from the City regarding their purchase plans. Pathways have purchased a building at 801 N. Orange Street and plan to raise funds for capital improvements to the building. They hope to raise $500,000 for the improvements.
City Clerk Casey Koehn swore in the newly elected Councilmen David Brown, Thom Burg, Terry Agnew and Shawn McVey as well as Mayor Don Maylan.
A dedication ceremony for the Butler Solar Energy Farm will be held on Friday, April 25th at 11am at the Solar Energy Farm. Representative from the State have been contacted and invited to the ceremony. Casey Kohen said she had been approached regarding attending dignitaries for the ceremony going up in the bucket of the electrical truck to see the solar panels better. After discussion with Council, City Attorney Tom Addleman and Public Works Director Trent Diehl it was decided that safety would be an issue and decided against the request.
Koehn brought up a consideration which would allow Airport Manager Chris Hall to have spending authority for the airports maintenance fund and the Council approved.
Termite bids for the Airport cane in and winning bid was Brad Summers at $1,775.
City Clerk brought up a discussion regarding City Business Licenses and the Finance Committee will meet to discuss the licenses.
