Taxes Not Paid? Your House Won’t Be Demoed

BUTLER, Mo – During the Butler City County meeting on Tuesday evening, Casey Koehn, acting City Administrator, updated Council on the CDBG Demo project. Two certified letters that were sent out to property owners that owe back taxes have come back as non-deliverable.

Koehn further stated that it has been difficult to get the taxes paid on the properties that are scheduled for demolition. The bottom line is if the taxes aren’t paid then the houses will not be slated for demolition. The asbestos removal company is still waiting for approval for the surety bond that is required for the project.

The financing bids for the Fire Rescue Truck have been sent to all local banks and are due back in the City Clerk’s office by 5pm on January 15th. The bids will be opened at that time and will be brought to the January 20th Council meeting for approval.

Casey Koehn, Mary Jo Cook and City Attorney Tom Addlemen met to further clarify the Utility policy discussed during the December 16th Council meeting. Final changes are firming up and will be presented to the Mayor and Council at the January 20th meeting.

Election filings began on December 16th and will run through January 20th. Those filing at this time are Brian Phillips from Ward 1; Gayle Stark from Ward 2; and Craig Irwin from Ward 3.

The Airport Commission met without a quorum and discussed the Airport project as well as upcoming projects. The Zoning Board met and approved a variance for a carport at 804 Gregory.
