BATES COUNTY, Mo – March 16 through March 21 is celebrated as FCCLA Week at Miami R-1. FCCLA is the student-led organization of the Vocational Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Students participate in community service, leadership activities, government awareness, and competitions throughout the school year.
On Friday, March 20th Representative Patricia Pike will be at the school and address the student body during an assembly. Rep. Pike will also tour the school to observe the safe rooms in operation.
Saturday, March 21, will be the final day of FCCLA week. The FCCLA students are sponsoring an elementary basketball night. All Miami Elementary students will have a chance to play their peers in basketball and receive a prize. Between the 3rd and 4th Grade games, the Miami Staff are playing with the Elementary teachers as cheerleaders. Cake walks will be between every game. The Senior class will have the concession stand. Admission cost is $2 per adult, $1 or a nonperishable food product for students (this includes students playing basketball), and free to under school age children. All food will be donated to the Bates County Food Pantry.
