CASS COUNTY, Mo – Nearly 200 Harrisonville High School seniors completed more than 600 hours of community service in just one morning as part of the first-ever Senior Day of Service on April 28.
Community members submitted nearly 30 “jobs” for the seniors. The projects included working with students at Harrisonville Early Childhood Center, Harrisonville Elementary School and Harrisonville HeadStart; riding the OATS buses to help with meal delivery and assisting passengers; building a community garden; painting murals at the Harrisonville Animal Shelter and Harrisonville Police Department; landscaping at the Harrisonville Animal Shelter, Harrisonville Community Center, Golden Years, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, McEowen Elementary School, Meadowview, and a couple of senior citizens’ homes; washing and detailing police cars; moving books and shelving at the Cass County Public Library; painting at the First Baptist Church, the Cass County Dental Clinic, the Life Choice Center, the North Park concession stands, City Park, and Harrisonville Elementary School; redecking a community stage for the Chamber of Commerce; interacting with seniors at Crown Care Center; pressure washing and scraping an individual home for painting; and organizing and shelving food at the Shepherd’s Staff Food Pantry.
