Delivering Warmth and Comfort in a Bowl

BUTLER, Mo – Every Wednesday morning when Brooke McGuire and Erin Wise walk into the basement of the Ohio Street United Methodist Church they realize that what began as a dream, 5 recipes from home and $200 has become a reality. That reality is Wednesday’s “Bowl of Soup”.

Every Wednesday morning, 5 – 8 volunteer ladies meet in the basement of the Ohio Street United Methodist Church and begin making the “soup of the day.” The soup is delivered to area residents so they will have a hot meal that day and also a little extra for dinner that evening.

Delivery the first week was 10 people and has grown to approximately 50 deliveries. The need for volunteers has also grown and they are seeking individuals who would be able to donate approximately 2 hours each Wednesday. Volunteers and cooks meet each Wednesday for everyone to share a bowl of soup before it’s delivered. Vehicles are loaded by approximately 11:30am and each volunteer has their delivery list with approximately 4 stops.

While on the surface it may seem they are only delivering soup, but in reality they are delivering a human touch, a helping hand and a smile to someone who needs it.

If you are interested in volunteering to deliver on Wednesday or make a contribution, call the Ohio Street United Methodist Church at 660-679-4384.
