BATES COUNTY, Mo – Congratulations to Elizabeth Ogg, Bates County Economic Developer and the team she has put together. Butler is one of 52 semi-finalists to win the Georgetown University Energy Prize, a $5 million dollar incentive competition to help reduce America’s energy consumption.
Stage 2 will be the submission of Bates County’s Energy Efficiency Program Plan on November 10th. This will be a long-term plan, with commitments by residential associations, governments, institutions or businesses in the community that will yield continual improvement. Quarter finalist communities will also have the opportunity to apply for seed grants to help them implement their plan. Based on the submitted plans and proposals, the Energy Prize team will select communities who will be invited to compete as Semifinalists.
The Energy Prize team will also award an Energy Plan Certificate of Merit to communities that submitted exceptionally worthy applications but were not selected as Semifinalists.
Stage 3 will be from January 2015 – December 2016 which will be the Semifinalist Performance Competition. Semifinalists will compete for 2 years to reduce their utility-supplied energy consumption in a manner that is likely to yield continuing improvements within our community and replication in other communities. For purposes of this prize, community energy consumption measurements are restricted to energy supplied by gas and electric utilities directly to all residential and municipal customers.
Stage 4 will be the finalist selection, judging and awards which will take place between January – June of 2017.
