According to the National Weather Service of Pleasant Hill Missouri, a heat advisory remains in effect until 8 pm this evening.
A heat advisory has been issued for locations across Missouri into extreme southeast Kansas including the following counties: Click Here
Temperatures will be in the upper 90s and low 100s. Heat index values will range from 100 to 108 on an afternoon basis.
The cumulative effects of multiple days of afternoon heat index values above 100 degrees will result in an increased risk of heat related illnesses. Young children, the elderly, and those without access to air conditioning will be particularly susceptible.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
