Tornado Safety Checklist

With tornado season upon us, do you have a plan if a tornado is threatening?

If not, here are a few tips to remember with inclement weather:

– Listen to local news or a NOAA weather radio

– Know your community’s warning system and what the sirens sound like

– Pick a safe room in hour home where household members and pets gather during a tornado. This should be a basement, storm cellar or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows.

– Practice tornado drills so everyone knows what to do

– Prepare for high winds by removing diseased and damaged limbs from trees

– Move or secure lawn furniture, trash cans, hanging plants or anything else that can be picked up by the wind and become a projectile

– Watch for tornado danger signs

– Have supplies in your safe room, water, cell phone charger, extra batteries for a portable radio, and medication you take daily

Always being prepared is the best thing you can do during bad weather.
