On 5/21/2014, Detectives at the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sexual abuse involving a juvenile. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Richard D. Purkey (DOB 10/21/47).
On 5/22/2014, Richard D. Purkey was taken into custody at his home in rural Archie. He was transported to Bates County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with 3 counts of felony statutory sodomy. His bond was set at $100,000.00 cash or surety. Further charges are being reviewed by the Bates County Prosecuting Attorney.
Richard Purkey is currently a registered sex offender in Bates County. On 7/27/1999 Purkey was convicted of rape and sodomy of a juvenile in Cass County, MO.
Purkey is currently being held in the Bates County Jail.
