The swim area at McGennis Youth Center will be open Wednesday through Sunday this summer. Lifeguards will be on duty from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and until 7:00 p.m. if swimmers are present. It would be a good idea to call the Center (417-484-3216) to make sure a lifeguard is available after 5:00 p.m.
Swimming is just $1 per person this year.
Groups and organizations can reserve the swim area on Mondays and Tuesdays for a fee of $25 per hour with a two-hour minimum. Lifeguards for these reservations must be the Center’s lifeguards.
The McGennis Youth Center also offers two shelter houses for picnics and cookouts, four cabins for camping, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts and fishing.
Use of the camping cabins for groups and organizations is on a donation basis. For individuals wanting to use the cabins, the fee is $20 per night. Cabins can be used by individuals for a maximum of seven nights. Two camper electricity hook-ups have been added this year. The fee is $20 per night for the use of the electrical hook-ups.
Several activities are in the planning stages for this summer, including a fishing derby, movie nights, the Old Barn Theater and the Annual Barbecue and Auction. Watch area media outlets for dates for these events.
