Nevada Habilitation Center Kitchen Equipment Donated To The City

[Nevada, MO.] Valuable kitchen equipment from Nevada Habilitation Center is being donated to the City of Nevada to be used by community groups and the vocational school. The transfer of these items occurred through the collaboration with Senator Ed. Emery, Representative Randy Pike and the Department of Mental Health and the Office of Administration.

A community group, Healthy Nevada, inquired about the unused kitchen equipment and brought it to the attention of Sen. Emery and Rep. Pike. Representatives from Healthy Nevada, the Nevada Vocational School, and Heartland Behavioral Hospital presented a proposal to their legislators outlining the use of the state equipment for the betterment of the Nevada community. Sen. Emery and Rep. Pike then in turn presented the proposal to the Department of Mental Health and the Office of Administration to donate the pieces to the City of Nevada. Representative Pike said, “It was a win – win opportunity to be able to keep this valuable equipment in the Nevada area and use it for these important community groups.”

Healthy Nevada community coordinator, Kelly Ast, says that the kitchen equipment will be divided among Community Outreach, the Nevada Vernon County Farmer’s Market, and the Nevada R-5 school district vocational program.

Community Outreach, the local food pantry is pleased to get the equipment. Barb Long, Community Outreach Coordinator, will be able to store the fresh produce for over 300 families the pantry serves each month. The Farmers Market and vocational school plan to use the equipment as an educational opportunity for students and families through offerings such as cooking classes and demonstrations.
