Patient Fatality as Ambulance Looses Contol

CASS COUNTY, Mo – At approximately 11:30 Wednesday evening a Vernon County ambulance northbound on I-49 Wednesday night just north of Harrisonville lost control when the ambulance’s back end began sliding on wet pavement. The ambulance was transporting Shelby N. Brandt, 65 of Nevada to the Kansas City VA Medical Center.


The ambulance ran off the right side of the road, overturned and came to rest on its roof in a ditch. Brandt was pronounced dead at the scene and released to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office.


Joshua Jeffries, 23 from Nevada was in the back of the ambulance with the patient and suffered serious injuries. The driver, Gavin Crocker, 25 of Schell City suffered minor injuries. Both Jeffries and Crocker were transported to Research Hospital. Both work for the Vernon County Ambulance District.
