MISSOURI COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS ANNOUNCES A FREE SUMMER RESOURCE CENTER FOR COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation – is pleased to announce the opening of the Kansas City Metro College Connections Center.
The Center is specifically designed to assist low-income and first-generation-to-college students increase their likelihood of being enrolled in college in the fall. Research demonstrates that as many as 40% of high school graduates who are college bound actually make it to and enroll in college in the fall. Students change their minds and end up not attending for many reasons, most often due to financial reasons. Research has shown that assistance and support during the summer months increases the number and percentage that will enroll in college in fall.
The Center will be open June 2 through August 1 – 30 hours per week, 6 days per week and one evening – at the Metropolitan Community-College Penn Valley campus (Humanities Building Room 29, 3201 Southwest Trafficway, Kansas City MO 64111-4116).
An experienced team of high school counselors, college access coaches, university financial aid officers, and representatives of the most commonly attended colleges/ universities by Kansas City metro students will assist students with a variety of issues such as financial aid, housing, transportation, course registration, completing admissions processes and any other necessary paperwork to ensure that students are ready for college enrollment in the fall. One-on-one advisement is available on a walk-in basis or by pre-scheduling an appointment. Families are welcome to accompany the student to the appointment.
Students are welcome at the Center which has been specifically marketed to 104 high schools in five counties in the Metro area. Learn more about the Center at collegeconnections.missouri.edu. Students may use the website or call 816-604-4116 to pre-schedule an appointment. Students may also come in on a walk-in basis.
"It is MCAC's vision that the Center will provide support in a pivotal moment of fear about the pending reality of college or answer a question that removes a seemingly large roadblock for a college-bound student. This support and assistance will enable more students to follow through on their plans to pursue a postsecondary education.
An Open House will be held at the Center on Wednesday, May 28, 12 noon – 3 pm. The public is welcome and local and state officials will be present to speak about the importance of our young students pursuing a “best-fit” postsecondary education.
