BUTLER, Mo – It was approval of upcoming parades that opened the Butler City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 7th. Lee Anna Schowengerdt, Butler Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director received permission from the council for the Halloween parade on Friday, October 31st and Shelly Thomas received permission for the Christmas parade on Saturday, December 6th.
Dana Bridges received approval for a sign for the Trail of Memories memorial.
The Council also reviewed two proposals for financial advisors for the City of Butler. McLiney and Company and Springsted, Inc. No decision was made at this time.
In Larry Tucker, Butler City Administrator’s report, council was informed the title search contract with Butler Abstract Company has been singed and they have been asked to complete their work as soon as possible. Tom Addleman, City Attorney, has reviewed the asbestos contract with ALM Environmental Services and the removal of the asbestos will begin after the title work is completed.
The bid requests for demolitions must be published three consecutive weeks in the local newspaper. A pre-bid meeting will be scheduled for questions and also tour the houses on the project. Once bids have been received, the project engineer will recommend the company to award the contract.
Mr. Tucker also reported the airport project is still moving forward even after a snag in September regarding the correct drainage materials and procedures to be completed before the runway can be resurfaced. The contractor continues to work since the contract calls for the project to be completed in eight weeks or face a penalty.
Two separate ordinances failed to pass, one regarding nuisances and other amending the zoning classification of certain real property within the city of Butler.
Mayor Don Malan reported to the council the city has been advised of a Supreme Court decision that allows a generic prayer in Council meetings is now acceptable.
