The White House says the president will kicking off a series of speeches in the Midwest to "lay out his vision for rebuilding an economy that puts the middle class and those fighting to join it front and center."
The University of Central Missouri was the foundation for Nixon's Innovation Campus initiative, which offers students accelerated degree programs and apprenticeships in high-demand fields. The initiative is intended to cut down on the time to earn a degree and reduce student debt.
Earlier this month, Gov. Nixon signed a bill that officially defined the initiative and recognized UCM as having met the criteria.
Last fall, Nixon announced $9 million in Innovation Campus grants to establish partnerships between local high schools, community colleges, four-year colleges and area businesses.
University officials say they expect at least 2,000 people to attend today's speech.
