Lions Club 1935 Film Revived

BUTLER - This press release is from the desk of C.A. Moore editor of the News X-Press.

In celebration of its 75th anniversary, the Butler Lions Club has revived and finessed the famous 1939 film of street scenes in and about the town along with related activities of general interest.

Project chairman LeRoy Cook, current vice-president of the Butler Lions, managed the processing of a DVD which details of a lot of the action. It is available to the public for only $20 per copy or two for $30.

Produced by Home Video Studio of Lee’s Summit, Mo., the lively film shows how Butler looked and functioned “way back when”…population slightly over 2,000.

There were up to five grocery stores on the square; four newspapers; 20 gas stations; prosperous retail stores at every turn; and active church, school, and social events including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, along with the high school band and pep clubs; football scrimmage, fashion show, Fisk’s Theatre – and the then Mayor Harvey Oberweather in full command of the city council, fire and police departments – plus glimpses of the Lions Club members hammering it up on the front steps of the Inn Building.

Narration is provided by C.A. Moore and LeRoy Cook.

All of this and much more. This one-hour, 50 minutes DVD is a MUST for collectors and anyone who enjoys reminiscing of days gone by in Butler. DVDs are available at Corner Hardware, 107 West Ohio, Butler.
