Let the Demo Begin

BUTLER, Mo – With Tuesday’s night approval of the contract between the Butler City Council and DWD Construction, the demolition process can begin as soon as signed by both parties. To date 27 properties are ready for demo, 2 are ready for asbestos removal and four properties need to have their taxes paid. This was good news for several council members who expressed to Council that “people are always asking when the demo will begin.”

Andy Dixon came before Council to receive approval to set up his inflatable bouncy houses on City property for events. Butler’s insurance carrier was contacted regarding liability and as long as Mr. Dixon carries the City of Butler as an additionally insured entity the city will not be held liable. Dixon received permission to set up at the Park, the Fairgrounds and at the Old High School in the winter, providing great care is taken with the refinished floor at the old high school. The cost will be $125 per day.

The contract and Quit Claim Deed for the Maple Senior Living between the City of Butler and Butler School District was approved and will now be sent to the School District for approval and signatures.

Randy Beshore, Butler Police Chief informed Council the department received a grant from the Department of Justice to buy body armor.

Reservations at the City parks was discussed and Chief Beshore’s opinion was it should be on a “first come, first serve” basis since at this time the reservations are not posted. The Council voted to have reservations for major holidays including Alumni weekend and the rest of the time it will be on a first come, first serve basis.

The council approved waiving the fee for sign permits across the street banners in the city for non-profit organizations. The fee of $100 per hour for the bucket truck to put up and also removing the signs will still be charged.

City Administrator Casey Koehn told Council the north end threshold PAPI lights at the Butler Airport have not functioned since the runway project began last August. The problem is where the PAPI cables run beneath the runway. MoDOT has initially approved adding a Change Order to the existing construction contract and Burns and McDonnell is going to prepare the scope of work for the Change Order. Casey will also look into the refinancing of the COP’s for the Aquatic Center and she will report back to Council.

The compost pile will be open from 9am – 4pm Monday – Friday and after hours the key will be available at the Butler Police Station.

City Wide Cleanup will be May 4 – 8 for those people North of Ft. Scott Street; and May 11 – 15 for those living south of Ft. Scott.
