Jerry Fisher, 69 of Valdosta, GA, formerly of Butler, MO

BUTLER, Mo – Funeral services for Jerry Fisher will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Jerry Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri. A visitation and funeral service has been conducted in Valdosta, Georgia. Contributions in memory of Jerry may be given to the Family Life Center care of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel.


Jerald Wayne (Jerry) Fisher, age 69 of Valdosta, Georgia died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on January 24, 1946 to Billy L. and Dorothy Louise Snyder Fisher in Butler, Missouri.


Jerry grew up on a farm in Passaic, Missouri and later the family moved to Butler, just a few miles away. He had sheep to raise and won ribbons for baking angel food cakes as a child. As a teenager he ran track for Butler High School and still holds a record for relay. He also played football at Butler. He graduated in 1964 with honors. He then attended the University of Missouri, School of Forestry, graduating in 1968 number one academically in his class and was an active member of the honorary national fraternity of Zi Sigma Pi. He and Sherry Jenkins of Adrian, Missouri were married in 1966. They moved to Arkansas where Jerry was a Forester for Georgia-Pacific, then to East Texas when the company was divided and became Louisiana-Pacific. He became a successful Procurement Forester and was recruited in 1988 by the Langdale Company for procurement of timber for the new Langboard Mill near Quitman, Georgia. He was very successful in this position for 15 years. His recent years were spent as a purchasing agent for Brooks Welding of Valdosta. The Fishers have one son, Gabe and two grandsons, Ty and Luke all of Valdosta. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta, and especially liked working in First Baptist’s large and productive Food Ministry. Jerry enjoyed many hunting trips in younger days and he, Sherry and Gabe have had wonderful international trips. He was an avid Civil War scholar and collected many authentic relics. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and Christian.


Jerry is survived by his wife, Sherry; one son, Gabe; and two grandsons, Ty and Luke, all of Valdosta, Georgia. He is also survived by his mother, Louise and a brother, Jim and wife Ernestine all of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by a baby brother, Jackie; his father, Billy; and a sister-in-law, George Ann Kappel Fisher.
