They’re Here

BATES COUNTY, Mo – Barbara Burch of Butler knows as “The Hummingbird Lady of Bates County” has confirmed to fm92 news that the Hummingbirds have arrived in Bates County. She offered these suggestions if you plan to use a hummingbird feeder in your yard.

Mrs. Burch stressed that food coloring, honey or artificial sweeteners should not be used in your hummingbird feeders. The specific use of food coloring has been reported to damage the kidneys of the hummingbirds. You are encouraged to also clean your bird feeder each season.

The best nectar recipe is:

1 part sugar

4 parts water

Boil the mixture for 1 – 2 minutes and then cool in the refrigerator before you use it. Always store any leftover nectar in the refrigerator.

Barbara Burch is also available for clubs and organizations as a guest speaker on behalf of the hummingbird.

Mrs. Burch also mentioned the dogwood in southern Missouri is in full bloom and very beautiful at this time.
