This week the state of Missouri won’t be charging sales tax on energy efficient appliances for your home.
The week long savings event for the state is called “Show-Me Green.”
The purpose is to try and encourage Missourians to be more energy efficient and cut down on the state’s carbon footprint.
The program runs from now until Sunday in hopes of encouraging anyone who is looking to buy an appliance, like a washer or dryer, to get it this week and take advantage of the savings.
The general manager at one participating store says it’s a great way for shoppers to save some money.
“It gives them that incentive and a little extra savings to purchase that item that may have been a little out of their budget otherwise, this time of year too is a great time because people are getting their tax refunds back, they have that money and that savings on top of that makes it go a little further,” says General Manager of Metro Appliances and More, Christy Williams.
“Show-Me Green” is also planned to fall on the same week as earth day, Wednesday- April 22.
The program is now in its sixth year.
The general manager at Metro Appliances and More says they let customers know about the savings on social media and through traditional mail promotions.
The following energy star certified appliances qualify for the holiday:
• Clothes washers
• Clothes dryers
• Water heaters
• Dishwashers
• Air conditioners
• Furnaces
• Refrigerators
• Freezers
• Heat pumps
