COLUMBIA, Mo – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Jacob Rapp of the Rick Hill FFA Chapter as Area 7 Star Farmer at the 87th Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Myron and Kathy Rapp of Rockville, Mo. His advisor is Brian Gillis.
Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student’s supervised agricultural experience program (SAE) and active participation in FFA. Area 7 includes 26 chapters in the Central District.
MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Star Farmer Award.
Rapp’s SAE includes working for Rapp Brothers Farms. He rents 62 acres of cropland. He traps raccoons, coyotes and other animals during trapping season. Rapp also has a small herd of Angus cattle which he plans to expand in the future.
Rapp served as the Rich Hill FFA Chapter secretary, vice president and is currently the president. He received his Greenhand FFA and Chapter FFA degrees. He also was Chapter Star in Agribusiness. Rapp won chapter beef production-entrepreneurship and diversified livestock proficiency awards and the area beef production-placement proficiency award. Rapp exhibited the Grand Champion forage legume in the FFA division at the Missouri State Fair. He has participated in several career development events including FFA Creed speaking, FFA knowledge, entomology and meat evaluation.
In addition to FFA, Rapp is involved in student council, National Honor Society, and the A+ Scholarship Program. He also participated on the baseball team. Rapp also represented Rich Hill High School at Missouri Boys State.
Rapp plans to improve his SAE to earn state and American FFA degrees. After graduating he plans to study animal science at Missouri State University. He would eventually like to return to his family farm.
