COLUMBIA, Mo — The Missouri FFA Association recognized Amy McAlexander of the Archie FFA Chapter as Area 7 Star in Agribusiness at the 87th Missouri FFA Convention. Her parents are Eldon and Barb McAlexander of Archie, Mo. Her advisor is Matt McIntire.
Area Stars in Agribusiness are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student’s supervised agricultural experience program (SAE) and active participation in FFA. Area 7 includes 26 chapters in the Central District.
MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Agribusiness awards as well as the State Star in Agribusiness awards.
McAlexander’s SAE involves assisting her family with the operation of McAlexander Shoowpigs. She has raised and shown purebred and crossbred swine since she was young. She has been involved in the breeding, farrowing, marketing and showing aspects of the family swine business for years. The McAlexander family also hosts a show pig sale every year at Archie High School.
McAlexander serves as chapter president and Area 7 chaplain. She also served as chapter sentinel and historian. She competed at the state level in the dairy cattle evaluation and dairy foods career development events. She attended State FFA Leadership Camp where she received the camp leadership medal and the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
McAlexander is a member of National Honor Society and student council. She also played softball and basketball. She is a member of her local 4-H club where she serves as president.
McAlexander plans to study radiology at Missouri Southern State College. She plans to stay active with the family swine business and pursue her passion of livestock photography.
The Missouri FFA has 25,829 members representing 338 chapters. The national organization has more than 610,000 members representing 7,665 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
