BATES COUNTY, Mo – A two vehicle accident Monday afternoon killed a Butler man. The accident was just South of Virginia on V in rural Western Bates County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the accident occurred when a 1973 Ford E-700 Dump Truck driven by 19 year old Joseph A. Fields of Rich Hill, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of CR NW 2002 and V Highway just South of Virginia.
The dump truck was struck in the side while attempting to cross the intersection by a 2006 Dodge Dakota truck driven by 47 year old John A. Barth of Butler causing the dump truck to overturn.

Mr. Barth was life-flighted to Research Medical Center in Kansas City and later passed away at the hospital.
Mr. Fields refused treatment at the scene of the accident.
