BUTLER, Mo – It was a brief city council meeting on Tuesday, September 16th.
Ashley Swartz reported to the Council Kaysinger Basin opened bids on both title searches and the removal of asbestos. Butler Abstract won the bid on the title search and Alm Environmental won the bid on the asbestos removal.
The Neighborhood Advisory Commission reported they are waiting on bids back on having a used tire pick-up. They will report back to council when bidding process is over.
Elizabeth Ogg, Bates County Economic Developer reported to council 300 surveys were completed during Huckster’s Day on Saturday, September 6th. Donna Hutton was chosen as the winner of 15% off her electric bill.
Butler Police Chief Randy Beshore reported the department is currently testing body cameras. The current camera batteries only have a capacity of lasting approximately 4 hours.
City Administrator Larry Tucker was away for a conference but sent a report he has met with the Neighborhood Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission to discuss the possibility of creating a local historic commission. Mr. Tucker also has contacted local building and residential owners in the downtown business district regarding historic preservation to find out their interest and plans for any restoration. He will report back to council on his findings at the next meeting. Mr. Tucker also reported on the meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission. The superintendent is working on plans to upgrade the skate park. Commission members noted they have received complaints regarding the park’s safety. City staff and Cook Insurance has inspected the park and found that repairs do need to be made but the skate park is safe enough to continue to be open.
